STEPS TO APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID

STEP 1 – Get a PIN, an electric access code number (both parent and student should apply)! With a PIN, you can sign your FAFSA online. Go to www.pin.ed.gov.

STEP 2 – Collect the documents needed to apply, including income tax returns, W-2 forms, and other records of income (2005 tax forms).

STEP 3 – Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – APPLY EARLY!! (Priority Date is MARCH 1) www.fafsa.ed.gov DSU School Code: 003463

STEP 4 – Complete applications for scholarships. DSU Scholarship website… http://www.departments.dsu.edu/financial/scholarships.htm.

STEP 5 – Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) – the result of the FAFSA application. If necessary, make changes or corrections and resubmit. Your complete, correct SAR will contain your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) – the number used to determine your federal student aid eligibility.

STEP 6 – If selected for verification, you will receive information from the Enrollment Services Center in Vermillion on what forms to submit.

STEP 7 – If eligible for aid, an award letter will be sent from DSU (typically beginning of April).
